Inky, the playful octopus

Did you know that octopus have 9 brains and 3 hearts?

Nine brains – a central brain controls the nervous system. In addition, there is a small brain in each of their eight arms — a cluster of nerve cells that biologists say controls movement. This allows the arms to work independently of each other, yet together toward the same goal. This lovely crochet octopus does the same – you can move each of its eight arms independently !

Three hearts – that makes sense, considering their bodies are all muscle except for two small plates anchoring their heads, together with a beak used to grasp and bite prey. Two hearts pump blood to the gills. A larger heart that circulates blood to the rest of the body. With so many hearts your crochet octopus will always give you lots of love!

Shelly, the huggable turtle

Did you know that sea turtles don’t retract into their shells?

Unlike other turtles, sea turtles cannot retract their flippers and head into their shells. Their streamlined shells and large paddle-shaped flippers make them very agile and graceful swimmers. In the water, their rear flippers are used as rudders, for steering. This amigurumi turtle replicates the real ones and its flippers and head are well sewn to ensure that even “attacked” they stay in place.

Did you also know that the the sex of sea turtles, like many other turtles, is determined by the temperature in the nest? Cooler incubation temperatures produce male hatchlings and warmer incubation temperatures produce female hatchlings. Shelly is female, but if you prefer a male turtle toy just let me know!

Medusa, the happy jellyfish

Did you know that there are jellyfish that do not sting?

In the tiny South Pacific nation of Palau, there’s a saltwater lake called Ongeim’l Tketau Jellyfish Lake. As you’d guess by the name, it’s full of jellyfish. Trapped in the lake by receding glaciers 12,000 years ago, the sting of these orange jellyfish has evolved so it no longer affects humans.

Luckily there is a closer place you can find a non-stinging jellyfish – here! This amigurumi jellyfish will only sting you with lots of joy.

Bubbles, the charming fish

Do you know how many fish species are there in the oceans?

Some estimates report the world’s oceans are home to 20,000 species of fish. Ocean fishes come in all shapes, sizes, colors and live in drastically different depths and temperatures. With so many species you can only imagine how many interesting facts there could be to learn! And scientists have explored only 1% of the ocean depths. They believe millions of new kinds of animals and fish are down there, waiting to be discovered…..

Bubbles, as part of this enormous fish family comes in different colours, but always with charming look!

Other marine creatures

With more than 70% of our planet covered by the oceans you can imagine the diversity!
